Edirin is a film fanatic. (Though she loves books, television and music too.)
As a little girl she could recite the week’s box office top ten from memory and was an acknowledged connoisseur at her local video rental store.
She took Film Studies for two years at university, alongside English and Modern History. In this brief, shining period she learned: to love screwball comedy; what a best boy is; and how to drop mise-en-scène and MacGuffin into a sentence. A little later, she attended the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and proceeded to take every arts and culture, criticism and style class in sight—with some photography and neighbourhood beat reporting thrown in for good measure.
She believes cinema matters. Whether it’s a 35mm print or a high-def digital VOD, if she can find it, she’ll watch it and probably write about it too.
Her favourite films of the last decade or so include: the Bourne series, Hugo, Hot Fuzz, The History Boys, The King’s Speech, The Incredibles, Thor, Mamma Mia!, Skyfall, Children of Men and The Grand Budapest Hotel. Her sprawling collection of DVDs and Blu-rays is a source of amazement and mild concern to her friends.
After putting up with years of earnest, unprompted lectures on everything from the return of 3D to the current state of blockbusters, her family and friends kindly suggested she set up a blog and share her ramblings with the rest of the world. She did.
(Actually, she started two: she also blogs about classic films at Retro Movie Buff.)
